Disinfection of the growing site
Purpose of the measure:
Destruction of pathogenic and harmful organisms, thereby minimizing the possibility of contamination of the new compost.
Implementation time:
After completion of the harvesting phase. It is carried out together with the used compost.
Method of implementation:
I. GASIFICATION.
It is important that the site is well sealed, the temperature is not less than 180C, and that the site remains closed for at least 48 hours. The process can be carried out in several ways, we will highlight two:
1. Sulfur dioxide
A very powerful disinfectant. The sulfur strips are brought into the site and ignited (20 grams of sulfur per 1 m3).
2. Formalin To 1 liter of formalin, add, due to evaporation, 250 grams of potassium permanganate, 500 grams of chlorinated lime or 1 kg of quicklime. The application dose is 10 ml of commercial formalin per 1 m3. II. SPRAYING.
A less effective disinfection measure than gasification.
When taking this measure, it is important that the site is well sealed and that the applied preparations are allowed to act for 48 hours.
1. Formalin
The object should be sprayed with a 2% formalin solution or a 10% bleach solution. For an object with a volume of 150 m3, 75 liters of solution should be used.
2. Peral S An object with a volume of 150 m3 should be sprayed with 60 liters of 2% Peral solution.
3. Cineb S 65
An object with a volume of 150 m3 should be sprayed with 60 liters of 0.4% Cineba S-65 solution.
4. Copper sulfide An object with a volume of 150 m3 should be sprayed with 30 liters of 5% copper sulfide solution.
Note: The most effective disinfection is achieved with water vapor (a mandatory measure in the Netherlands, known as ‘’cook out’’). In the absence of the necessary equipment, this method is not applied in our country.
